Sridevi is one of the phenomenal actresses of her time. After getting married with Boney Kapoor she bid adieu to the film industry. However, in 2012 she made a comeback in Bollywood with ‘English Vinglish’ as a demure wife. Acting legend Sridevi died after a cardiac arrest in Dubai on Saturday. She was 54. She is survived by her husband Boney Kapoor and her daughters Jhanvi and Khushi. She was in Dubai to attend the wedding of her nephew, Mohit Marwah.

Sridevi was renowned for her naturalistic acting abilities, her comic timing, and her graceful dancing skills. She was among the few female stars in Hindi cinema who could steer a movie’s commercial fate on her own merit. She starred in some of the biggest hits in the 1970s and the ’90s, and won acclaim for her sensitive portrayals of women thrown into challenging situations.

Sridevi started her career as a child artist in M.A. She worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films as a child artist. As a child artist, she started her Hindi film career with the Bollywood movie Julie (1975). At the age of 13, she started the adult roll from the Tamil film Mundhra Mudichu (1976). Lesser known facts about Sridevi

  • Sridevi was named Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan upon Birth.
  • She started her carrer at the age of 4 with a devotional film, Thunaivan.
  • Sridevi was also considered for a role in Jurassic Park.
  • Jaya Prada was considered as the Sridevi’s strongest contender at that time. During the shoot of movie Maqsad, the actress couldn’t see eye to eye.
  • Hence, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra had to lock them in a room to break the rice. But when the door was opened after two hours both were sitting at the distant corner by themselevs.
  • Sridevi acted as a Grand daughter as well as a Love interest for the Telgu Superstar NTR

While we are all mourning the untimely demise of Sridevi, it is important to remember why this may have happened to her. Society demanded that she stay slimmer/look younger than a 40 year old, 50 year old and plus 50 woman needs to be–hence, the continuous surgeries. What a lot of pressure to keep her weight down, to make sure that her face had no wrinkle lines….continuous clinic visits in Southern California.

We need a #metoo movement in fashion, #notsize0? Milan has already implemented this but these patriarchal implants were in her head — the husband, who claimed to love her so much should have intervened, did he love the way she looked as his arm candy more than he loved her? She herself did not trust in her own beauty — she was a clothes horse for whoever would care to dress her. What i conclude is she had such a lack of love for oneself and such a lack of self esteem that her own lips didn’t suffice, her own face was not good enough, her flesh and blood had to be sucked out of her so that she could wear the best of couture. that is the sadness of a life that could have been lived so much better not just for her but for her daughters. what a terrible legacy for her girls.”
