Jis Thali Me Khaya Usi Me Ched Kiya, Sums Up Everything Going On In JNU

So we’re done with the day and after all the life-sucking chores of the day, me and my friend sit down for a beer on my terrace. It’s a pleasure drinking beneath the stars, a different form of serenity which makes us ponder deep, and surprisingly, not in a senseless way at all.

Friend: Did you see that Arnab Goswami video where he lashes out on the JNU student?

Me: Yeah man. He tried to knock some real patriotism in them. Good man.

F: Yeah but don’t you think we, as Indians, should, apart from telling them that they are wrong, also try to research deeply as to why are they so anti-national?

M: Of course we should. But the thing is the need of the hour is to immediately arrest this new way of thinking. Freedom of expression and speech cannot and should not be used against the very own country that gives you freedom!

F: Also, the ideology isn’t that of the entire JNU but only of a sect of the humongous volume of students there. Therefore any results shouldn’t be generalized like that at all.

M: JNU has had the extreme left always dominating and creating havoc like this for ages now. The students, who are supposed to have a fair deal of knowledge in Indian history owing to their arts degree, are unaware of the history of Kashmir and want it to be given away that easily!

F: They are naive. They don’t understand things. I remember someone said, “If you are not a communist at 20 then you have no heart. If you are still a communist at 40, then you have no brains.”

M: Churchill?

F: Who cares! The point is, how hard is it to understand that first you evacuate the place of Hindu “country loving” pandits and then grow a bunch of “country hating” idiots and then when they gain majority, you say they need to be left alone, and that they’re not us? Tell me will they say the same if they demand other parts of the country as well?

M: Nothing will happen man. It’s all useless.

F: Don’t lose hope.

M: Nah. We’ll get offended by people not standing for the national anthem during movies and can even go on to question our very own PM on his patriotism when he’s seen moving during the anthem. But when time demands, nobody can summon the issue of potent youth getting deranged from their path and going hostile. Won’t this help ISIS prosper?

F: Jis thali me khate he usi me chhed karte he. (They burr a hole in the very plate they feed in)

M: This is just too much of liberalism that India is allowing, not only to the citizens but to the media and the politicians and everyone else. Religion should never be made a weapon to break people into communities.

F: Correct! The media needs to address this. They should present it in such a way that instills patriotism in every one just like Arnab did (given that they mould so much already then why not this!) The politicians need to be cautious of their words and shouldn’t play community politics as people look up to them! And terror or support of terror should never be encouraged even for political gains.

M: Totally agreed! And if we can make sense while we’re drunk, can’t they do this, when they are sober?
