Humans have evolved. And humanity is dead.
I seriously have no idea on how to tell the gut wrenching story of a 12 year old girl and her 40 year old mother. May be I can take inspiration from those 3 men who raped the kid and her mother. If they can do it, the least I can do is write about it.
It was just a few days back when the mother-daughter duo was trying to make a living by stitching and selling sheets in a small district named Daharki, Pakistan. Now, as of 3 days ago, both of them are dead.
The young girl died right after she was raped, as the three men had set her on fire while she was still alive. In the failed attempt to protect her child, the mother injured herself badly. She got admitted in the Civil Hospital of Karachi, but died this Monday night. Ali Hassan Solangi, a relative of the victim was extremely disappointed by the treatment she got in the hospital. He said that the situation could have been a lot better if the doctors would have taken proper care of the victim.
And the best part is that all the three culprits, namely Noor Hassan, Hashim Mochi and Gul Hassan are still roaming around free on the streets, even though it’s almost a month since the FIR was lodged.
In her complaint to the District Magistrate, she had narrated the entire incident of how she was also raped along with her daughter.
In a talk with a Pakistani media house, Dawn News, the mother had told that the three men lured them in the pretense that they were interested in buying their stuff. The rapists drugged the 12 year old girl before doing the most inhuman act that one can possibly do.
Rape is not an issue which only India has to deal with. The whole world is suffering from this epidemic. And the worst part is, we are still no where even close to curing it. A family gets raped and burnt alive. You must be thinking it can’t get any worse than this. But the reality is, it can.
Just think of the 12 year old girl, perhaps she wouldn’t have even known what sexual intercourse is. What was her fault? And what was the fault of her mother who tried protecting her child who was being burnt alive in front of her? I don’t have an answer to these questions, and I don’t think I can find them either.
When Nirbhaya happened, we thought, this is it. Human standards cannot fall any further. But no, day after day, week after week, month after month, these incidents just keep on repeating. Will it ever stop? An obvious question with no answer.
We cannot just ignore these cases because they didn’t take place in our own nation. It’s a matter of humanity, and it is bound to affect everyone who has a heart somewhere inside them. The mother and her child can now only hope that it doesn’t happen to anyone again.
