11 Harry Potter characters that we can easily find in our own government

The diversity in our country which we constantly talk about is also clearly evident in our politics as well if you look closely. There are all kinds of characters in our system, from the good guys to the ugly villains.

This makes me relate our political figures and bureaucrats to the famous series of Harry Potter.

Yes, you heard it right; I am trying to compare our famous politicians and bureaucrats with the amazing characters of the Harry Potter series. Being one of my favourite books of all time, I was wondering who all from our ministers and officers, will prove to be the perfect replacements for those magical characters. Some of the matches are really going to shock you for sure. Here is what I have come up with –

1. Narendra Modi as Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

Narendra Modi is the headmaster of India, the same way in which professor Dumbledore was of Hogwarts. Both of them have to take important and crucial decisions. They enjoy the head position but are also constantly burdened with responsibilities.

Dumbledore was the greatest magician of all time. He always gave everyone hope and assurance of a better future which is very much similar to what Modi is doing for us. Narendra Modi and Dumbledore have always delivered when the situation demanded, if India is Hogwarts, Mr. Modi is our principal.

2. LK Advani as Rubeus Hagrid

The keys have always been safe with Hagrid, and he has done an excellent job in keeping them. If you look at Mr. Advani’s job as a BJP party member, it very much resembles to that of Hagrid, he has been holding the party together for a very long time now.

3. Sonia Gandhi as Dolores Umbridge

If Modi is our hero then the villain has to be Sonia Gandhi. She used to make Manmohan Singh dance as a puppet, the same way Umbridge used to manipulate people in Hogwarts. We all hate Umbridge for her shrewd nature and the way she constantly put obstacles in front of Harry but in the end she did get defeated and so did Sonia Gandhi.

4. Digvijaya Singh as Gilderoy Lockhart

We all know Professor Lockhart as a good for nothing teacher of Defence Against the Dark Arts which very much resonates with our Congress leader Digvijaya Singh as well. Mr. Singh is known for his irrational and senseless comments just like Lockhart who used to brag many heroic stories which he never was a part of only for attracting attention towards himself. Both are irritating and senseless to the core, hence a perfect match.

5. Rahul Gandhi as Dudley Dursley

This certainly has to be one of the most interesting matches. Mama’s boy, spoilt childhood and cry baby, these three terms fit perfectly for Dudley Dursley as well as Rahul Gandhi. You hardly see anything sensible coming out of them. Both of them are not capable of taking any kind of responsibility, and expecting them to be sensible is like expecting a madman to be smart.

6. Nitish Kumar as Ron Weasley

Ron may not be the main protagonist of the series but he did manage to win many a heart. Nitish Kumar also has a pretty much similar story, he may not be the leader of the nation but he did manage to have a strong influence on a huge section of the society. With limited resources in hand, Nitish Kumar did wonders, which easily reminds of Ron, who in spite of his many shortcomings proved more than handy to Hogwarts.

7. Priyanka Gandhi as Luna Lovegood

This Ravenclaw girl remained offbeat throughout the series, very much like our once in a while politician, Priyanka Gandhi. Both of them suffered a huge loss, in form of their parents, Luna’s mother and Priyanka’s father, from a tragic accident, one magical and the other one real. Luna and Priyanka had their own way of doing things which always separated them from the crowd.

8. Suresh Kalmadi as Draco Malfoy

Wealth, power and influence, these word exemplifies the two gentlemen. While we hated Draco for his pinching comments against the Weasleys, we hate Kalmadi even more for his monstrous scams and the fact that he still manages to get away with it for so long. Draco always used wealth as a shield to protect himself, and Kalmadi used his strong connections to dance his way out of trouble.

9. Arvind Kejriwal as Sirius Black

Just like Sirious Black was an innocent man, in spite of him being sent to Azkaban for murdering 12 Muggles, we all know that inspite of his few current debatable wrong-doings, somewhere deep Kejriwal is also a nice person. He may not have become a hero for everyone as most people imagined but he did make everyone realize how powerful a common man can get.

10. Hermione Granger as Sushma Swaraj

The emphatic leader from BJP has many traits in common with our cute, smart and super intelligent Hermione. Both of them are logical and upright in the way they think. They are sincere and law followers, but are also not afraid of taking risks when there is a bigger good at stake. Sushma Swaraj has always helped in showing BJP the right path, which Hermoine did for Gryffindor throughout.

11. Raghuram Rajan as Harry Potter

Yes, it’s our RBI governor, Raghuram Rajan, who bailed India out of economic slump just like Harry Potter bailed Hogwarts out from the shadows of Voldemort. People never heard much about Raghuram Rajan probably because he too had the invisibility cloak on, while he was doing the good work for our country. If it hadn’t been for him, India would have gone into a huge economic crisis. He definitely is our Harry Potter, who is always there to fight things out.

This is how I think the characters of Harry Potter series are related to Indian politicians and bureaucrats. If you have any other thoughts then feel free to express them through comments.
